Cathal Garvey: Free/Libre Agribiotech: Hack Your Own Crops

In this talk, Cathal will explore the state of the art in biotechnology,
and what it means for a cutting edge agricultural commons in the present
and future. Topics will include the benefits of rapid crop innovation
using biotechnology, the feasibility of farmer-led or micro-biotech crop
development, the grey areas of direct crop improvement or
informatics-lead crop improvement, the state of the patent and IP
minefield, and the technological innovations that make a revolution in
Free/Libre biotechnology possible. Crossovers and parallels will be
drawn with medical biotech, and the scope for locally produced critical
medicines.
