GERALDINE JUÁREZ: DO NOT TAKE ANY WOODEN NICKELS

Where: Studio Two

When: 10:00-13:00

Currency – such as coinage and paper money – enables and represents economic relations by performing a monetary exchange function. But currency is also media and a device that is capable of recording and transmitting specific ideologies and versions of history.  Coinage is also strongly related to technological developments at a given moment in history. Do not take any wooden nickels is a workshop where we will discuss and recall the symbols and narratives of the recent history of financial capitalism. From here we will  generate symbolic elements with which to strike our own coins and record on them versions of current economic history that are not represented in our publicly mandated currencies.
